Marriage made in heaven? Or not. WhiteWave foods—makers of Silk-branded products—purchased So Delicious Dairy Free this week for $125 million. Story here.

WhiteWave owns Horizon (dairy) and Land O’ Lakes, so that sucks. I’ve always avoided Silk for this reason. They own Earthbound Organics as well.

are you fucking kidding me

Will someone explain to me why this is a bad thing? I’m really wondering

It’s bad because now vegans will have to contribute to animal exploitation when purchasing a vegan product sold by a dairy producer.

SIGNAL BOOST.

Buy the vegan product and show there’s a demand for that. No need to boycott the entire company. They follow the money. So if more people are buying the vegan friendly product, they will make more of that.

If we boycotted every company for something that they do wrong, I would most likely have absolutely no one to buy from. Show your demand for the products you want and the market will respond.

Or just make your own goddamn almondmilk and skip the soy all together. It’s easy enough.

Vegan Cream of Broccoli Soup

This was my first attempt at a blending soup using the good ol’ Vitamix. I modified Leanne’s recipe and I think it turned out really well. When you taste this, you won’t believe it’s vegan.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 head of cauliflower (chopped)
  • 1 bunch of broccoli (divided in half and chopped)
  • 3 or 4 cups of almond milk (depending on how thick you like your soup)
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Salt, pepper and onion powder

What you’ll do:

  1. Sautee the yellow onion in a pot until soft (add salt and pepper to taste)
  2. Throw in the cauliflower and almond milk, bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes
  3. Add in half of the broccoli and cook for 5 minutes
  4. Pour this concoction into your blender and blend
  5. Returned blended soup to the pot and add in the remaining broccoli. WARNING: The soup can get really thick and spatter (that soup is hot and will burn you!)
  6. Cook until the broccoli is soft (about 10-15 minutes)

What was crazy to me was how creamy it turned out. That cauliflower sure knows how to play a part :)

What’s your favorite blended soup?

During and after his bullshit press conference today, NFL Commissioner Roger “What Tape?  I Didn’t see No Tape!” Goodell got totally shit on — deservedly so — by former and current NFL players.  And it didn’t go unnoticed that while he apologized to the league itself, not a word of apology went out to the victims of domestic violence or child abuse.

Not for nothin’ but I find it interesting that the Commissioner went out of his way to say that changes to the NFL’s policies on its players not acting like assholes were going to be in place by the “Super Bowl” — because 1) branding! Mention the Super Bowl whenever possible!  In front of an NFL step and repeat banner during a nationally televised press conference, of course!!! PROTECT THE BRAND!!!  and 2) why shouldn’t they take five months to address what they can in five fucking days?
